What We Do Three Through-Lines of the Work

Pipeline Development

Building the next generation of Black lawyers through scholarships, law school programs, mentorship, and inner-city pathways, including the Just the Beginning Program for high-school students and the MLK Drum Major for Justice Competition.

Judicial Advocacy

Region IX vetting and lobbying has contributed to the confirmation of more than ninety Black judges to federal, state, appellate, and Supreme Court benches across the western United States, a generational shift in who sits on the bench.

Community Engagement

From SCOTUS amicus briefs to pro bono disaster-relief clinics for LA wildfire victims, Region IX shows up where the legal work meets the moment, for our members, for the bench, and for the communities we serve.

On the Ground

Where the Work Happens

Region IX is the western region of the National Bar Association, representing Black legal professionals across Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and Guam.

The region advances initiatives that promote justice, equity, and excellence in the legal profession, fostering meaningful collaboration, developing the next generation of lawyers, and shaping the future of the profession.
